New York Times – Email Fail

by Tracey Halvorsen on November 4, 2009

I am constantly annoyed by the prominent advertising the New York Times places in their email newsletters.
Screen shot 2009-11-04 at 2.09.15 PMI understand that these newspapers need to generate ad revenue, but you would think someone with the prestige of the NYT would find a more elegant and less obtrusive way to do it for those of us who invite them into our inbox every day. The layout seems really outdated, and considering how much of the email window is visible when I view a message, the ad spot takes up much of the visual space. I rarely scroll for the additional articles, and the left alignment of the whole layout leaves big gutters of white space to the right further weakening my experience.

Hey New York Times – I think it’s time for an email re-design.
